  Dear Colleague,

Following a marvelous career of 40 years in education I am facing the realization that I will likely be leaving the work to younger folks sometime within the next five years. So naturally I am concerned about leaving a passionate cadre of people to carry on my life's work. Therefore, I am going to hold a seven day institute in the summer of 2009 (June 22-28) to begin certifying educators to be expert trainers of Concept-based Curriculum and Instruction. The institute will be held in beautiful Whitefish, Montana, at a quality accommodation--Grouse Mountain Lodge www.grousemountainlodge.com .

This letter provides details of the training. I will have four specialists present, whom I already certified, to provide additional focused training during the week, in the areas of Mathematics, Social Studies, English/Language Arts, and Science. There will only be 25 slots available—5 for each of the core areas previously mentioned, and 5 for generalists who work across subject areas. The slots will be filled based on the application information, and recommendations on the applicant's presentation skills. School districts may submit more than one application if they wish--and the applicants can be elementary focused, secondary focused, or both.

If a school district sponsors an employee(s) to participate in the institute then the participant will be certified to train within the sponsoring district. If an educator wishes to apply as an independent participant they would pay the fees and expenses themselves. In this case, the participant would be certified to advertise themselves as an independent consultant and could present at conferences and accept national and international requests to train on concept-based curriculum and instruction for fees. They will not be required to pay any fees to Lynn Erickson following the training. My two newest books (2007 and 2008) will have Facilitator's Guides to aid the participant in their trainings. In all cases, certified participants may advertise themselves as a Lynn Erickson Certified Trainer in Concept-based Curriculum & Instruction if they wish, and will be licensed to use all PowerPoint slides.

Participants will receive:

  • Books/Support Materials by H. Lynn Erickson (Corwin Press Publishers)
  • Stirring the Head, Heart and Soul: Redefining Curriculum, Instruction, and Concept-based Learning, c. 2008 PLUS a Facilitator's Guide to assist trainers using the book with teachers.
  • Concept-based Curriculum and Instruction for the Thinking Classroom , c. 2007 PLUS a new video/DVD showing elementary and secondary teachers in the classroom demonstrating concept-based instructional strategies and a Facilitator's Guide for trainers to use with the book and  video/DVD.
  • A complete set of Lynn Erickson's PowerPoint Slides which will be professionally enhanced. Participants will also receive any future slides developed by Lynn Erickson to use in their trainings and presentations.
  • They will need to maintain a citation that the slides were developed by H. Lynn Erickson . As participants gain experience in concept-based training they will most certainly be developing slides of their own which are their personal intellectual property.
  • An institute notebook containing all materials needed for the seven day training. The materials include many training activities that can be used by participants in their future trainings with other people. Core area training materials will also be included.
  • A quality framed Certificate of Achievement as a Concept-based Curriculum and Instruction Presenter/Trainer signed by H. Lynn Erickson after Certification Requirements are met.
  • For further information contact Lynn Erickson at the e-mail address or phone number listed above.
